Hello again everyone! Hope that you guys are having a great weekend or vacation perhaps. Equally for the update today, I will update about our vacation to Universal Studio Singapore. Most of the people will call it USS as in short form. Our journey starts from Subang Airport to Senai Airport. We settled to take the flight and spent a few nights in Johor since my sister is staying there. So, I got a chance to pull through my cash for accommodation this time, yeah…! This is so great for me! I also save a lot for transportation since my sister is the one who will drive us round the city. Of course I would hand her over some cash for fuel , but it is still the cheapest way to move around before the actual day for the USS. Our trip this time will be 5 days and 4 nights.
Day 1 departed from Subang to Senai Airport around 4-5pm if I’m not mistaken. It was weekdays so the road was a little busy and the traffic was a bit harder since this is the peak hours. So enjoying myself with the busiest ever road and eventually arrived at her place. Hey, guess what? It was almost 7.00pm and I’m exhausted. Unpacked my stuffs, taking my sweet time in bathroom and get dressed because we are going out for dinner. As for dinner we decided to go to a place call “Hutan Bandar” which means forest in the urban center. They have really a long queue for the famous steak that they have and it was very beneficial. We didn’t find a chance to get a table and decided just to take away the food and have our dinner at home. Later on a long wait getting tired and hungry for sure, your mood will swing because of your empty stomach. Finally we have our steak in a lunchbox or should I call it dinner box instead? We get back home the soonest and had our box dinner, luckily the result of taste didn’t frustrated us. After dinner, everyone is going to bed because tomorrow we are blending in to hunt for the best offer in town that we can get in USS package.
Day 2 we got a lot of study to do. First thing in the morning everyone checks their passport validity and every single of it is less than 6 months. Oh my, seriously..? And then, we get to the Immigration Department to renew our passport and waited for almost 5 hours…! That is really, really crazy. It was such a hassle and we have to bear with it because we genuinely wanted to make this trip so bad. At last, everyone got their pass and everything is in good order. Now, we necessitate to have our lunch because we skipped breakfast this morning. After lunch, we search for the best deal and we drew this great deal at Erwin Travel and Tours near Danga Bay area or for easy landmark it will be Tune Hotel. The package offered comes with lunch coupon, shopping voucher, and parking voucher plus transportation to USS from Erwin Travel and Tours office. Later that day, we spend some time at Danga Bay and enjoy the sundown. It was simply a stunning view across the water. It’s nearly 7.00pm and we are heading back home. This evening we decided to eat home cooked dinner rather than spending eating outside. Another dime is being kept from spending, worth it.
Day 3 early in the morning we drove to Erwin Travel and Tours office and take on everyone there. We reached there about 7.30 am in the morning. Took off about 8.30am, and then I was like… what? Ok, fine, equally long as all of us are going to the same destination. Reached Woodland we need to glance over our passport and continue our journey. Before entering Singapore, once again we need to chop our passport. Luckily the queue wasn’t that long. Eventually, we arrived at USS at 10.30am. Yea…! First thing first, took a few pics in front of the USS famous world globe, then only we enter the place.
We will skip Hollywood because we desired to do it last before we leave USS. The first stop, we decided to depart for “Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase”. You will join Elmo and Super Grover 2.0 in the world’s first Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase. It was really fun where you will travel on a mission with Sesame Street super heroes to stop Macaroni the Merciless in his plot to steal all the spaghetti from Earth. We enjoyed this high-flying adventure as we sped through the space mission ant meet with all of our favorite Sesame Street characters. The time that you’ll spend will be roughly 10 minutes. Short but fun enough. Then we turned to another street show in a New York Street area which is Sesame Street Stage Shows…! You can join Elmo and his friends from Sesame Street in a whimsical all singing, all dancing stage show, ‘When I Grow Up’, as they let the cat out of the bag about their dreams of being a firefighter, a police officer, a singer and even a paleontologist. If you can’t get enough of your furry and feathered Sesame Street friends, you can catch them up-close in their New York Street shows where you can sing along to the feet-tapping tunes of ‘Our Favorite Things’ and ‘Dance with Bert and Ernie’. But that’s not altogether! Get ready to hit a pose with Elmo, shake hands with Oscar the Grouch or give Big Bird a hug for the family album. You’ll never know who you might run into when you stroll along New York Street. If you are hungry ou can find a steak house named KT’s Grill a New York-style steak house offering rib-eyes, Wagyu burgers, rotisserie chicken and a chilled seafood platter. Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor, a conter-service eatery with thin-crust pizza by the slice or while pie, as well as pasta, wings, grilled chicken subs and Caesar salad. Oh what a fun day it’s going to be. Next spot Sci-Fi City.
The city of the future has arrived hohoho…! Through the impressive portals of Sci-Fi City you will experience the ultimate intergalactic battle of Good vs. Evil and visit a vibrant metropolis with all the ultimate modern conveniences. It is time for us to test our intergalactic stamina and see if we can keep our wits while we madly spinning on this whirling twirling attraction. Urghhhh that was such a spinning head experience thou. For starter not that bad and not that bored. I would rate is as so so I guess because the spinning is not that fast as I expected. After the spinning session we head off to Galactica PX and bought few souvenirs. Just a few steps ahead we arrived at Transformer 3D. I just can’t wait to get in. So here we go…! Oh no…!
What a long queue??? Ok fine, as long as we get to ride on this thing. Waited for about 30 minutes finally our turn came. Get ready to experience this hyper-realistic 3D thrill ride, right in the middle of all the action in the incredible world of TRANSFORMERS. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance as villainous DECEPTICONS invade NEST Headquarters to steal the ALLSPARK. And we’ve been volunteered to take it to safety and save our planet! Race through the city, zipping through subway tunnels, down the city streets and across high-rise rooftops, hanging on for our dear life. The ride, the experience, the adrenalin rush… WOW…! I give it 10 out of 10. Please be warned that any guest with prone to motion sickness, dizziness or giddiness should not ride. If you insist to ride, it is advisable for you to be seated at the last row. At least when you puke, you won’t puke at others face, right? Hahahaha bad me. Okay, after the fun ride we enter the merchandise shop which they called it as Transformers Supply Vault just before the exit. So, again we bought a lanyard and key chain. Outside the building just around the corner, you can find Stardots that famous with its molecular ice cream experience and Starbot Café where you can dine in this futuristic restaurant serving a variety of Asian delights such as Chicken Yakitori and Black Olive Fried Rice with Poached Salmon. We decided to try the molecular ice cream and it tastes so good. If you wanted to meet and greet the character of People of Earth, DO NOT BE ALARMED or watched AUTOBOTS, Roll Out you can meet and greet them from 11.30am – 6.30pm around the area.
Move on to the next stop which is the Ancient Egypt. Here you will see ancient pyramids and obelisks stand fast against the sands of time as you are transported to 1930’s Egypt, the Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration. Travel to an era when entire Pharaohs tombs were discovered and their terrible curses unleashed. You also can strike a pose with Army of Anubis and experience the Golden Age of Ancient Egypt. As for the ride they named it Revenge of the Mummy. Plague on all sides by huge fireballs, swarms of scarab beetles and an army of warrior mummies, all in total darkness. Do you think that you can survive the awesome power of Imhotep’s curse or will you be entombed inside forever? So, let’s give it a try. Before that we need to keep our bags in a locker outside the building as they do not allow any bags inside. Beside, it doesn’t cost much as we share 1 locker. Seriously this is a high-speed indoor roller coaster and the one that can make a reversal. Woahhh…! You must get on this one, it is a must. Be warned to those who are under 122cm may not ride as for safety reason. This ride employs safety restraints which may not accommodate certain people due to their body shape or size. As for children who are under 122cm, you still can have fun at Treasure Hunters area. Young explorers can drive their own desert jeep through an abandoned Egyptian excavation site.
Venture out on an expedition into the forbidding sands of ancient Egypt, where young treasure hunters can drive their own vintage motor car for an exciting visit through at an abandoned excavation site. Adult may accompany their child but not more than 1 person. As for adult, you are not welcome to this place as this ride is made especially for the children only. Before heading out for lunch, we took our bags in the locker and off to Carter’s Curiosities™ where we took home some replicas of historical artifact and fossils from ancient Egypt. We started to get hungry and look for nearby restaurant. We found one nearby which is Oasis Spice Café™. The Egyptian-theme buffeteria serve up an array of Middle Eastern specialties. Remember the food voucher that we got with the package? We used it here. The food taste good and enough to keep you full for the day.
After lunch we head to The Lost World™. Roarrrr…! Divided into two themed areas: Jurassic Park™ and WaterWorld™, this zone is for fans of the two blockbuster movies, as they can experience a dense tropical forest where dinosaurs lurk, then watch death-defying stunts filled with thrills and spills! But first let try the Jurassic Park area. Oh no…! It’s lunch time at Jurassic Park™ and we’re on the menu…! Hahahaha just kidding. The ride called Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure™. This ride feature a white water raft system with state-of-the-art animatronics and a thrilling white water drop, thrill-seekers on circular rafts will be tossed on waterways within the Jurassic Park compound, where prehistoric creatures roam free. As for this ride, there is a restriction too where guests who under 107cm may not ride. Children between 107cm and 122cm must be accompanied by supervising companion. Make sure of that before you queue up because for sure you didn’t want to waste your time waiting and at the end you won’t be able to bring along your child. Do take this seriously because during that time there’s a few families that encounter that problem. The ride was more relaxed and yeah… It will make you wet. Be sure to have one of those disposable raincoat before you get into the ride.
Next attraction will be Dino-Soarin’™. Children can ride on the back of flying dinosaurs called Pteranodons, soaring up into the sky or plunging down into the shadows. Height restrictions for children that are under 122cm must be accompanied by a supervising companion. No hand-held infants for sure because the ride will go up and down while spinning around. We do watch but we don’t ride, it’s a little bit childish ride thou. So we move on to our next area which is the Lost World where we ride on the so-called Canopy Flyer™. We board dino-proof flying vehicle as we enjoy a prehistoric bird’s eye view of Jurassic Park™. It was fun and we did it twice. If you wanted to shop, you can go to Jurassic Outfitters™ and shop for key artifacts from Jurassic Park, along with themed hats, shirts and more. You also can drop by at The Dino-Store™ and bring home a piece of the prehistoric era with souvenirs from Jurassic Park. After that we move to WaterWorld™. There will be a show soon enough, so everyone was like hustle to that place just to get the best spot, and we have it. The show was based on the blockbuster film, “Waterworld”, witness a tidal wave of death-defying stunts, along with thrills and spills from real explosions of fire and water at this sensational live water show. Eye catching show and it was fun and funny too. After the show finished we took a walk to our next spot, Far Far Away. Come on guys, hustle a bit more…! On our way to Far Far Away we bumped with cuties Diane. Actually she is the infant of triceratops. Manage to get a few pictures with it. But before that, just in case you wanted to have some junk food or drinks, nearby food court called Discovery will serve you with variety of local dishes, desserts and drinks in a Jurassic setting. You also can choose to go to Fossil Fuels™ to recharge and enjoy your quick bites like tasty hot dogs, gourmet sausages or a refreshing frozen drink!
Finally, Far Far Away seems to be not that far from us now. Strike a pose now guys…! We got Fiona and Shrek in da house…! Woot woot…! Next Enchanted Airways where guests of all ages can climb aboard Donkey’s beloved Dragon for a flight over Far Far Away and beyond. At Enchanted Airways, a merry cast of fairy tale creatures from the Three Little Pigs to the Big Bad Wolf, from Gingy to Pinocchio forms part of a magical airline in the form of a junior coaster that serves destinations throughout the World of Shrek! Even though it is just a family roller coaster but I still can enjoy the time on it. Please be reminded that this ride have a height restrictions too. So, be alert peeps…!
Next we off to Shrek 4-D Adventures where we can see, hear and feel the action right from our seat as we join Princess Fiona and Shrek in a fairytale adventure. We also join the Donkey LIVE as we sing along with Shrek sidekick Donkey as he hosts the interactive live show. After the show we go for the Magic Portion Spin but, opsss strictly for children only okay. After having fun right before we exit we will enter the souvenir section. At Fairy Godmother’s Potion Shop we used our shopping voucher. I bought a few key chain, some photo frame and mugs. Outside, there’s a few booth and restaurants such as Goldilocks where you can enjoy a bucket of homemade special recipe. Friar’s where you can feast on a unique variety of speciality sandwich wraps and cool off with a soft-served ice cream treat or you can choose Fairy Godmother’s Juice Bar where you can choose a unique concoction of colourful elixir at the bar.
Based on the hit DreamWorks Animation film, Madagascar, this zone brings you to a dense tropical jungle, filled with strange and wonderful animals like lemurs and fossa. It’s time for the ultimate King Julien’s Beach Party Go Round. Ultimate huh? Oh yeah…! This is a family carousel ride. It tells you about King Julien, the self-appointed King of the Lemurs. We spin round and round to the beat of high-energy dance music in this crazy carousel, sure to be a family favourite. At this festive beach scene, King Julien and the Lemurs are throwing a party for their favourite freaks from New York: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe. This is so cute. Next we try the Madagascar A Crate Adventure where we joined Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria, the four heroes from DreamWorks Animation’s blockbuster movie Madagascar, as they embark on an unforgettable river ride adventure in Madagascar. It’s a indoor river boat ride and it was relaxing and funny. If you wanted to shop for souvenirs you can drop by at Penguins Mercantile where the keepsakes inspired by the many characters of Madagascar. We shopped there too. There’s a food court named Marty’s Casa Del Wild Food Court where you can get a variety of Southeast Asian favorites such as our mouth-watering satay, Tom Yum Gai, tender-juicy roasted chicken, vegetarian specials and more. You also can choose to go to Gloria’s Snack Shack and feast on a selection of yummy Japanese delights including Vegetarian Tempura, Yakitori and Bento Box meals.
Seriously there’s a lot of pose and flash going on this trip. But who cares as long as we’re happy. Our final spot will be the Hollywood. Both the Hollywood and New York sections of the park are partially covered by translucent roofs, providing some relief from Singapore’s frequent thunderstorms. Located just one degree north of the equator, Singapore “enjoys” Orlando’s mid-summer weather year-round. Otherwise, the design of Universal Studios Singapore is most like Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, but much smaller – just 49 acres to IOA’s 110. But both are organized around a central lagoon, with themed lands surrounding. If you make a right when you come to the end of Hollywood Boulevard, on your way to New York, you’ll see USS’s version of Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre, home to the Monster Rock show. Here’s the story.
Computer geek Henry Preston Jekyll III has brought the classic Universal Monsters back to life, and transformed them into modern rock-and-roll stars. Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Phantom of the Opera and the Wolfman (joined by a She-Wolf) join young Dr. Jekyll for a 15-minute medley of rock and pop tunes… with lyrics cleaned up for the family friendly park, of course. Still, there is a touch of grown-up humour now and then, such as when Dracula rejects the advances of the played-to-be-gay Phantom of the Opera with the dismissal, “You’re not my blood type.” Exiting the Pantages, you’re just steps away from New York, which is home to theLights! Camera! Action! Hosted by Steven Speilberg special effects show. This reminded me of the old Backdraft show at Universal Studios Hollywood. There’s a short pre show where Steven Spielberg comes on-screen to tell us a little about movie special effects, with examples from popular Universal films from over the years. Then, he sets up the next scene: We’ll be walking into a stage set where we’ll watch the filming of a scene inside a boat house while a Category 5 hurricane hits New York City. Predictably, when we get to the part of the scene when the TV newscaster tells us that all is under control, you know that’s when all heck’s going to break loose. And much does break loose from the ceiling, and from the walls, and from the fuel tanks surrounding the boat house. Oh, and the show’s not over until a nice little “kick” at the end. But forget about New York since we already cover it this morning.
Your highest-profile restaurant in the park is Mel’s Drive In, which is located alongside the Lagoon at the end of Hollywood Boulevard. Keeping with our theory that we should always order the special when trying a new restaurant, we decided to go with the “Shiok Burger.” The Shiok (which is “Singlish” for really great taste) includes lettuce, tomato, cheese, guacamole, turkey bacon, an onion ring, and something called “spiced chicken floss.” Here’s what the burger looks like in real life. I think I would have liked the chicken floss in another dish – it’s basically chicken that’s been chopped to a thread-like consistency, spiced with sugar, soy, ginger and Asian five-spice powder. Yet on a guacamole bacon cheeseburger, the whole mix just left my mouth feeling confused. But the fries were awesome, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Your other food options in Hollywood are Hollywood China Bistro, offering dim sum and a large menu of Cantonese fare in a table-service setting, including sets for two to 10 people. You also can try Celebrity Cafe & Bakery, a counter-service restaurant serving breakfast sets, including bacon and eggs, waffles and muffins. Later in the day, you’ll find sandwiches, coffee drinks and desserts.
Before we exit the main entrance we bumped into Kungfu Panda character and others. Strike a few poses, selfie’s and buy some more souvenirs. Goodbye Universal Studio Singapore. Till we meet again next time. We arrived at Erwin Travel & Tours office at 8.30pm. Once reached we off to a restaurant nearby and have our dinner. After back home and packed the things we bought in USS earlier. Tomorrow will be our last day.
Day 4 around 9.30am we reached Senai airport and departed at 10.30am. It was a fun vacation eventhough we visited 1 nearby country in a day.
